Third Grade Teacher | The Croft School

An accomplished educator with more than 20 years of experience, Nicole Davis Cameau has excelled since 2024 as a third grade teacher at The Croft School in Boston, Massachusetts. In this capacity, she has established herself as a student-centered educator with a passion for helping them reach their highest potential. She teaches math, reading, writing, grammar, and spelling, as well as shaped the grade’s World Religions Project-Based Learning Unit. She has long believed in educating youth on real world and current-day issues, emphasizing the importance of being good citizens in addition to students.

Ms. Cameau also collects data during instruction; conducts small group and whole group activities; manages social-emotional crises in the classroom; and communicates frequently with parents.  As a testament to her leadership success at the independent school, Ms. Cameau was recently selected to be featured in a Croft Educator Spotlight feature and recommended by school leaders to participate in a recruitment video for future talent interested in applying to Croft.

While a natural educator, whose passion for helping students excel in their academic journey has been impactful for countless, Ms. Cameau originally did not set out to become a teacher as a career path. Attributing her success to her mother, who instilled in her the belief that she must work for anything she wants, which has motivated her lifelong drive to be the best version of herself. She pursued a degree in medical laboratory sciences, intending to become a medical technician and contribute to cancer research.

After two years at the University of Massachusetts Boston, though, Ms. Cameau shifted her focus to psychology, aspiring to become a child psychologist. During her final semester in college, she worked at a group home, where she met a fourth-grade girl reading at a first-grade level, an experience that inspired her to pursue a career in education, solidified by her witnessing the real-life impact of educators. She ultimately graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology, and subsequently worked as a teacher’s aide at Delphi Academy for six months—following time as a phlebotomist at Boston Children’s Hospital.

During that time, Ms. Cameau recognized that teaching was what she was meant to do. She continued her studies at her alma mater, where she earned a Master of Education; subsequently, she then applied for one position, the only position she sought, and was ultimately hired at Newton Public Schools. In the midst of this role, she also taught at Boston Public Schools and most recently served as a fifth and sixth grade mathematics specialist at Boston Renaissance Charter Public School from 2022 to 2024 before joining The Croft School.

Upon reflection of her decades-spanning impactful career, Ms. Cameau’s most notable achievement occurred while at Newton Public Schools, when she developed a curriculum on the civil rights movement for t fourth grade students. It was subsequently adopted district-wide, and led her to present her social studies projects to other teachers in the city, where her innovative ideas were well received. As a result, other educators began implementing her plans and approaches in their own classrooms, which she considered a significant accomplishment. She has also found it rewarding to reconnect with former students from her first year of teaching. One has become a leading fashion designer at Tom Ford and credits Ms. Cameau for the support she received during her education, and another former student served as a teaching assistant at a summer camp.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Cameau is dedicated to working with students and helping them develop a sense of belonging. She seeks to teach children that, although life can be challenging, they are capable of overcoming obstacles. She strives to inspire self-confidence and ensure that her students feel valued and appreciated. She is continually focused on developing inclusive programs and collaborating with her fellow third grade colleagues to create learning opportunities accessible to every child in her classroom, as she believes that every student has the potential to succeed. In addition, she wants to strengthen the connection between parents and the school, encouraging greater parental involvement in their children’s education. She aims to be a dependable colleague, friend, mother, wife, and a consistently positive individual.
